Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher I strive to create a positive and nurturing environment for the students. I see myself as a guide in their own path to discover their own expressive voice. My sincerest wish is that each student acquires a unique set of technical skills in order to be able to express themselves fully on the instrument. Technical aspects of playing should serve a greater musical goal. Even during the most challenging works the artist is responsible to deliver the musical and emotional content of the piece. Therefore, the beauty of sound, color changes and character should sustain throughout the most taxing tasks such as etudes, shifting studies and finger dexterity exercises.

Creativity is an important component for both teacher and student therefore I try to encourage constant exploration of variety of possibilities in artistic choices such as fingering, vibrato, bowing or phrasing. The student should be free to experiment and learn from mistakes. I encourage in my lessons questions, music history and theoretical research as well as seeking analogies. I believe that students develop the most with a teacher who suggests solutions rather than imposes his own ideas and is open to students’ interpretation or opinion.

I constantly encourage students to become their own teachers, develop their ability to think creatively and never stop experimenting. I cherish my relationship with students and believe in working hard to build trust in the student-teacher relationship.  It is my hope that every student graduates with a suitable career plan which is an important component in our work together. As a teacher I believe in staying invested in the student’s future as much as in the present. Aside from my work on student’s playing ability I encourage projects outside of the school realm as the teacher is the student’s window for future success. Together we build a foundation for a rewarding life in music.
